Kendall Outdoor Education Center Family Adventure Day
The Kendall County Outdoor Education Center is holding its First Annual Family Adventure Day on Saturday August 26 from noon until 4:00 pm. This Center will be open to the public for the first time in its 35 year history. This event is being held to create awareness of activities available to student and adult groups. Many activities will be free or at a minimal cost to cover expenses. All proceeds will be donated to the Kendall Outdoor Education Foundation’s short term capital campaign of $40,000 to keep the Center running for future generations of students.
5Bs Barbecue will be hosting a picnic from noon until 2:30 pm. Advance sale tickets are available at Sawmill Pizza, Club 47, Wash House II, Old Second Bank in Walmart in Plano or by calling 553-7108. A special tribute to Keith Tucker, the original director of the Center, will occur at 2:00 pm. At this time plans for new teaching stations and facilities projects will also be unveiled.
In honor of the Center’s Native American Indian the Midwest Soarring Foundation is sponsoring Native American Indian Performers including: Drums, Jingle Dancers, a Flute player, Storyteller as well as an Artifact Display. Pioneering Activities will be available to showcase a portion of the Center’s Living History course offerings. These activities will include Candle Dipping, Rope Making, and Leather Branding. Wildlife Activities will include Prairie and Tree Identification activities, the Conservation Police and a Native Animal display. Recycling activities will include paper making and making “silver dollars”. Team building activities will be held in the main field throughout the afternoon. Orienteering instruction will be led by Jeff Schafermeyer, a previous Director of the Center.
We would like to thank local area businesses for donating items for the Center to raffle. Several custom tailored birthday parties will be raffled including: one at the Kendall County Outdoor Education Center, Wild Iris Salon has donated a Diva Dress Up Birthday, and several others. Freeman Canoes will give each person donating $100 a complementary fall color canoe trip. Shannon Range will offer free outdoor “casual family” portrait sittings. (no animals please) She will be donating a portion of the proceeds from the sales of these portraits to the Center. Labyrinths in Stone will be creating a unique interactive artistic display. Sawmill Pizza will be donating a Free Mini Cheese Pizza to all area students who enter the Kendall Outdoor Education Foundation Logo Contest. Prizes for the Logo contest have been donated by Yorkville Primary Care.
In addition to these activities there will be many family oriented games, crafts and activities for all ages. Please join us at 13689 Fox Road, Yorkville, adjacent to Silver Springs State Park.
